Epilogue
Life Lessons from Davey
Had the chance to personally thank Nationals Manager Davey Martinez and President of Baseball Operations Mike Rizzo for the book’s Epilogue at the annual “Cigars and Curveballs” fundraiser to support the DC Grays, a baseball/softball program for kids from underserved areas of DC, Maryland, and Virginia. How better to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2024 than at Spring Training with Msgr. Stephen Rossetti, Washington Nationals Team Chaplain? On the final day of the 2019 regular season, he celebrated Sunday Mass with the team, as he usually did. “In my homily, I told them that they would never be in the playoffs if they had given up in May,” he wrote for the website Aleteia.org. “They never gave up hope, even when so many others had given up on them. I told them that all of us have dark times in our lives. But we, too, need to ‘Stay in the Fight,’ a good motto for life. If we do, we too will be winners regardless of what may come.”
